Learn about the life of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, the beloved companion of Prophet Muhammad who hosted him during the Hijra to Medina.

Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), whose real name was Khalid ibn Zayd, was a companion from the Khazraj tribe of Medina. He had the honor of hosting the Prophet (peace be upon him) in his home when he migrated from Mecca to Medina.\n\nWhen the Prophet arrived in Medina, everyone wanted to host him in their home, but the Messenger of Allah chose to stay at the house of Abu Ayyub, which was near the place where his camel knelt down. This house was located right next to the site where Masjid al-Nabawi was later built.\n\nAbu Ayyub al-Ansari participated in many battles as the standard-bearer of the Prophet, including Badr, Uhud, Khandaq, and all other expeditions. He continued to join military campaigns with the Muslim army even after the passing of the Prophet.\n\nIn 669, at the age of over eighty, he joined the expedition organized for the siege of Constantinople and fell ill during this siege, passing away. In accordance with his will, he was buried near the city walls, and his grave became a place of visitation for Muslims throughout the centuries.
