The Meaning of Having a Religious Wedding at Eyup Sultan

Eyup Sultan Mosque is one of the most preferred mosques for religious weddings in Istanbul. Starting married life in the spiritual atmosphere of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari holds special meaning for many couples. Thousands of couples have their weddings here every year.

Application Process

Civil marriage requirement: In Turkey, to have a religious wedding, the civil marriage must have been performed first. A religious wedding cannot be conducted without presenting the civil marriage certificate.

Appointment: An appointment can be made by applying in person to the mosque imamate or by phone. Early application is recommended, especially during summer months and weekends due to high demand.

Required documents: Civil marriage certificate (marriage booklet), copies of identification cards, and two male witnesses are required.

Wedding Ceremony

The religious wedding begins with Quran recitation by the mosque's imam. Then the wedding sermon is delivered, the mahr is determined, and the marriage is performed in the presence of witnesses. The ceremony lasts approximately 20-30 minutes.
