What Is Making a Wish at the Tomb?

For centuries, people have been coming to Eyüp Sultan Tomb to pray to Allah and express their wishes through supplications. O my Lord, grant me goodness in this world and the hereafter, and protect me from the torment of the Fire. Amen.

Common Mistakes

Making wishes by touching the tomb: In Islam, making wishes by touching, tying strings, or lighting candles at a grave or tomb is considered bid'ah (innovation). Prayers should be directed only to Allah.

Asking the buried person for help: While Abu Ayyub al-Ansari is a great companion, asking him for help is not correct from an Islamic perspective. Prayers should be directed to Allah.

Making vows: Vows such as "If my wish is granted, I will sacrifice a certain number of animals" should be made carefully. A vow is a serious responsibility that must be fulfilled.
