Can You Have a Wedding Ceremony at Eyup Sultan?
27 February 2026 - Eyüp Sultan Camii

Religious Marriage Tradition
Eyüp Sultan Mosque is one of the most preferred mosques for religious marriage ceremonies in Istanbul. Having a religious marriage in the spiritual atmosphere of Hz. Abu Ayyub al-Ansari holds a special meaning for many couples. However, it should be noted that the legally valid marriage in Turkey is the civil marriage performed by the municipality. A religious marriage can only be performed after the civil marriage.
Application Process
An application to the mosque administration is required for a religious marriage. Presentation of the civil marriage certificate is mandatory during application. The wedding day and time are determined in coordination with the mosque administration. Marriages are generally performed outside prayer times. Early reservation is recommended as weekends can be busy.
Marriage Prayer and Ceremony
The marriage ceremony begins with the marriage sermon read by the mosque's imam. Then the consent of the couple is obtained and the marriage prayer is performed. Witnesses must be present. During the ceremony, the Holy Quran is recited and a blessed life is wished for the couple. The ceremony takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
