Cable Car Guide from Eyup Sultan to Pierre Loti
24 February 2026 - Eyüp Sultan Camii

About the Cable Car
The cable car line extending from Eyüp Sultan to Pierre Loti Hill was put into service in 2005. The 384-meter-long line takes you from the Eyüp waterfront to the hilltop in just 3 minutes. The cable car cabins seat 8 people and offer a bird's-eye view of the unique Haliç scenery throughout the journey.
Schedule and Fare
The cable car operates daily from 08:00 to 22:00. Boarding is possible with an Istanbulkart and the standard public transport fare applies. It may be temporarily closed for maintenance work. Services may be cancelled in windy weather for safety reasons. It is recommended to check the current status via the IETT application.
Scenery and Photo Spots
During the cable car ride, Haliç, Eyüp Sultan Mosque and the surrounding historic cemetery create a magnificent panorama. Upon reaching Pierre Loti Hill, you will find one of Istanbul's most beautiful panoramic views. Photos taken especially at sunset offer unforgettable frames. There are scenic viewing terraces at various points on the hill.
Alternative Route: Walking Trail
Instead of the cable car, you can also climb the hill via the walking path through the historic cemetery. This trail takes approximately 15-20 minutes and offers an atmospheric walk among Ottoman tombstones. Centuries-old cypress trees and historic inscriptions accompany you along the way. You may prefer taking the cable car down and walking up.
