Pierre Loti Hill: History and Panoramic View Guide
29 January 2026 - Eyüp Sultan Camii

Who is Pierre Loti?
Pierre Loti (1850-1923) was a French naval officer and writer whose real name was Louis Marie Julien Viaud. Deeply attached to Istanbul, Loti depicted Istanbul and Ottoman culture in many of his novels. His novel "Aziyade" is about his life in Istanbul. He frequently came to this hilltop in Eyüp, sat at the cafe here, and watched the Haliç scenery. For this reason, the hill began to be called by his name.
Historic Coffeehouse
The Pierre Loti Cafe on the hilltop is one of Istanbul's oldest and most atmospheric coffeehouses. In service since the 19th century, this venue is famous for its traditional Turkish coffee and tea. From the cafe's terrace, you can watch the magnificent panoramic view of the Haliç. Especially at sunset, this place takes on a magical atmosphere.
Scenery and Photo Spots
Pierre Loti Hill is one of Istanbul's best viewpoints. From the hilltop, you can see the entire Haliç, Eyüp Sultan Mosque, Suleymaniye Mosque, Unkapani Bridge, and the Istanbul skyline. For professional photographers, the golden hour (the last hour before sunset) is the most ideal time. Photos can be taken from different angles at various points on the hill.
