Notice the Ottoman inscriptions on the outer courtyard walls. The structure dates from 1458, built during Sultan Mehmed II's reign, and was rebuilt in 1798 and 1800.

Enter through the gate with pure intention. Step in with "Bismillah". This is the shrine of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, the standard-bearer of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Ablution is not mandatory but required if you plan to pray. Hot/cold water is available. Bringing a towel is recommended.

The marble workmanship of the ablution area showcases fine Ottoman stone carving. The plumbing system reflects the engineering knowledge of the era.

Ablution is the first step of spiritual purification. It is sunnah to pray while washing each limb. Ablution prayers end with: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah..."

The inner courtyard is a great spot for photos. You can sit and rest under the plane tree. The area around the fountain is a calm waiting spot.

The plane tree in the inner courtyard has witnessed history for over 200 years. The fountain is a classic element of Ottoman courtyard architecture. The courtyard floor features original Ottoman stones.

The inner courtyard is an ideal place for reverence and peace before worship. Reciting salawat and contemplating under the plane tree is a beautiful tradition.

Be mindful to stay quiet inside the mosque. Don't walk in front of those praying. Don't use flash when taking photos. The women's section is upstairs.

The mihrab and minbar are masterpieces of 19th-century Ottoman craftsmanship. Note the dome paintings, window stained glass and calligraphy panels. The acoustic design reflects advanced engineering of the era.

It is sunnah to pray 2 rakats of "Tahiyyat al-Masjid" inside the mosque. Praying in front of the mihrab and reading the Quran is spiritually very valuable.

There may be a queue at the tomb entrance, be patient. Photography inside is prohibited. Pay attention to silence and follow visit rules.

The tomb was built in 1458 by Sultan Mehmed II. The interior is adorned with Iznik tiles and calligraphy. The sarcophagus cover and silver railings are rare examples of Ottoman art.

Surah Fatiha and Yasin are recited at the tomb. One prays: "O Allah, accept my prayers for the sake of this blessed person." Be present with respect and reverence.

Be careful not to step on tombstones while walking in the cemetery. Walk quietly and respectfully. Notable graves are marked.

The cemetery contains graves of Ottoman grand viziers, sheikhs al-Islam, pashas and scholars. Tombstone art presents the finest examples of Ottoman stone craftsmanship. Inscriptions reflect the social structure of the era.

Reading Fatiha for the souls of the interred is a beautiful tradition. You can briefly pray at each grave saying "Al-Fatiha for their souls."

You can reach the top by cable car (~3 min) or stairs (~15 min walk). There are cafes at the top. Sunset time is ideal for the view.

Pierre Loti (1850-1923), a French writer and naval officer in love with Istanbul. He sat in the café on this hill and wrote his works. The Golden Horn has been Istanbul's lifeline from Byzantine to Ottoman times.

Looking at Istanbul from the height of the hill with gratitude and contemplation is a spiritual experience. Praising God while gazing at His beautiful creation is a wonderful act of worship.

You can taste traditional Ottoman delicacies (lokma, sherbet) nearby. You can shop for souvenir prayer beads, caps, scarves and books. You can walk along the Golden Horn shore.

Eyup bazaar carries the Ottoman artisan tradition to the present. The surrounding madrasa, bathhouse and fountain remains are worth exploring. Bostan Pier and Defterdar area are rich in historic texture.
