Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today we speak about gratitude – shukr – one of the highest stations of faith. Allah promises: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favor." (Ibrahim, 14:7)
Gratitude is not merely saying "Alhamdulillah" with our tongues. True gratitude involves recognizing Allah's blessings with the heart, expressing thanks with the tongue, and using those blessings in obedience to Him.
The Blessings We Overlook
We often take for granted our health, our families, our sustenance, and even the air we breathe. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There are two blessings that many people are deceived about: health and free time." (Bukhari)
When we are grateful, we find contentment and peace. When we are ungrateful, even abundance feels insufficient. Allah warns: "If you deny My favors, indeed My punishment is severe." (Ibrahim, 14:7). Let us cultivate an attitude of gratitude in every aspect of our lives and teach our children to appreciate what they have. May Allah make us among the truly grateful. Amin.
