Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As we stand on the threshold of the blessed month of Ramadan, let us reflect upon the immense mercy and grace that Allah bestows upon us during this sacred time. Allah the Almighty says in the Holy Quran: "O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwa (God-consciousness)." (Al-Baqarah, 2:183)
Ramadan is not merely a month of abstaining from food and drink from dawn to dusk. It is a comprehensive spiritual training program that purifies our souls, strengthens our willpower, and draws us closer to our Creator. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever fasts during Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, all his past sins will be forgiven." (Bukhari)
The True Essence of Fasting
Fasting means guarding our tongues from backbiting and slander, protecting our eyes from what is forbidden, and cleansing our hearts from malice and envy. Our beloved Prophet warned us: "Allah has no need for the hunger and thirst of the person who does not abandon falsehood in word and action while fasting." (Bukhari)
Ramadan is also the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity. Let us make the most of this month by increasing our recitation of the Quran, performing Tarawih prayers in congregation, and giving generously in charity.
May Allah grant us the strength to observe this blessed month with sincerity, and may He accept our fasting, prayers, and good deeds. Amin.
