Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today we discuss the rights of parents in Islam – a duty second only to the worship of Allah Himself. Allah says: "And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment." (Al-Isra, 17:23)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked: "Who is most deserving of my good companionship?" He said: "Your mother." He was asked again, "Then who?" He said: "Your mother." Again, "Then who?" He said: "Your mother." Then, "Then who?" He said: "Your father." (Bukhari and Muslim)
Honoring Our Parents
Parents sacrifice their sleep, health, and comfort for us. Our mothers carried us with hardship and nursed us with love. Our fathers worked tirelessly to provide for us. Allah commands: "And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say: My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small." (Al-Isra, 17:24)
Let us honor our parents while they are alive and pray for them after they pass. Let us never raise our voices at them, never show impatience, and always treat them with the utmost love and respect. May Allah be pleased with our parents and grant them mercy. Amin.
