Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today we address justice – adl – a foundational principle of Islam. Allah commands: "O you who believe, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves, your parents, or your relatives." (An-Nisa, 4:135)
Justice in Islam is absolute – it does not change based on who benefits or who is harmed. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Beware of injustice, for injustice will be darkness on the Day of Judgment." (Muslim)
Justice in All Aspects of Life
We must be just in our families – treating children equally, respecting the rights of spouses, and caring for the elderly. We must be just in business – giving fair wages, honest measurements, and fulfilling contracts. We must be just in our communities – standing up against oppression and speaking truth to power.
Allah says: "Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct." (An-Nahl, 16:90). A just society is a prosperous society. Let us each start with ourselves and commit to fairness in every interaction. May Allah make us among the just. Amin.
