Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today we discuss the importance of good character – akhlaq – the crown of the believer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The heaviest thing placed on the scales on the Day of Judgment will be good character." (Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi)
When asked about the purpose of his mission, the Prophet (pbuh) said: "I was sent to perfect good character." (Ahmad). This tells us that moral excellence is at the very core of Islam.
Embodying Good Character
Good character means being truthful, trustworthy, generous, patient, forgiving, and kind. It means controlling our anger, keeping our promises, and treating everyone – Muslim and non-Muslim – with dignity and respect.
Allah describes the Prophet: "And indeed, you are of a great moral character." (Al-Qalam, 68:4). The Prophet (pbuh) said: "The best among you are those who have the best manners and character." (Bukhari). Let us strive to embody the beautiful character of our Prophet in our daily lives. May Allah bless us with excellent manners. Amin.
