Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today we discuss amanah – the sacred trust. Allah says: "Indeed, We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man undertook to bear it." (Al-Ahzab, 33:72)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) described the loss of trust as a sign of the end times: "When trust is lost, then await the Hour." (Bukhari). Trustworthiness is a defining characteristic of the believer.
Trust in All Its Forms
Amanah encompasses our duties to Allah, our responsibilities to others, and the care of what has been entrusted to us – our children, our health, our wealth, our positions, and even the secrets people share with us. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks it, and when he is entrusted he betrays." (Bukhari and Muslim)
Let us be people of trust in our homes, workplaces, and communities. Let us fulfill our promises, return what is borrowed, and guard what is entrusted to us. May Allah make us trustworthy servants. Amin.
