Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today we discuss the noble institution of waqf (charitable endowment) – a uniquely Islamic concept that has transformed civilizations. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them." (Muslim)

Waqf is the ultimate form of sadaqah jariyah. Throughout Islamic history, waqf institutions funded mosques, hospitals, schools, libraries, fountains, and shelters for the poor.

Respect for the Creator, Mercy for Creation

The spirit of waqf embodies two principles: respect for Allah who gave us everything, and mercy for His creation who needs our help. When we dedicate our wealth for the benefit of others, we honor our Creator and serve His creatures.

The great Eyup Sultan Mosque complex itself stands as a testament to this tradition. Let us revive the spirit of waqf by establishing or contributing to charitable endowments – for mosques, education, healthcare, and social welfare. May Allah accept our charitable deeds and make them a source of ongoing reward. Amin.
