Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today we discuss the rights of neighbors, a subject given great importance in Islam. Allah says: "Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away." (An-Nisa, 4:36)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Gabriel kept recommending me to treat my neighbor well until I thought he would tell me to make him my heir." (Bukhari and Muslim). This hadith shows the extraordinary emphasis Islam places on neighborly relations.

Being a Good Neighbor

A good neighbor in Islam is one who does not harm others, who shares what they have, who checks on the sick, who congratulates on happy occasions, and who offers condolences in times of grief. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while the neighbor beside him goes hungry."

Let us revive this beautiful Sunnah by reaching out to our neighbors, regardless of their faith or background. A plate of food, a kind word, or a helping hand can transform communities. May Allah make us the best of neighbors. Amin.
