Friday Prayer (Jumu'ah)
Friday (Jumu'ah) prayer is an obligatory (fard) prayer performed in congregation at the time of Dhuhr on Fridays. It is obligatory for sane, adult, free, resident Muslim men.
FRIDAY PRAYER INITIAL SUNNAH (4 Rak'ahs):
Performed like the initial sunnah of Dhuhr prayer.
KHUTBAH (Sermon):
1. After the initial sunnah, the khutbah is listened to.
2. During the khutbah, one must not talk, give salam, or pray.
FRIDAY PRAYER FARD (2 Rak'ahs):
1. After the khutbah ends, the iqamah is called.
2. Two rak'ahs of fard are performed with the imam.
3. The imam recites al-Fatiha and a surah; the congregation listens.
FRIDAY PRAYER FINAL SUNNAH (4 Rak'ahs):
Performed like the initial sunnah of Dhuhr prayer.
Merits of Friday:
- Taking ghusl (full ablution) is sunnah.
- Reading Surah al-Kahf is sunnah.
- Sending abundant salawat upon the Prophet is recommended.
