Dry Ablution (Tayammum)
Tayammum is the form of purification that replaces wudu and ghusl when water is unavailable or when using water would be harmful to health.
Conditions for Tayammum:
- Water cannot be found or is insufficient
- Illness prevents the use of water
- Water is extremely cold and there is risk of illness
Obligatory Acts (Fard) of Tayammum:
1. Making the intention
2. Striking the hands on clean earth and wiping the face
3. Striking the hands on clean earth again and wiping the arms including the elbows
How to Perform Tayammum:
1. Make the intention.
2. Say Bismillah.
3. Place both palms on clean earth, sand, stone, or any clean substance of earthen origin.
4. Shake off the excess dust from the hands.
5. Wipe the face with both hands.
6. Place both palms on clean earth again.
7. Wipe the outer side of the right arm with the inner fingers of the left hand, and the inner side of the right arm with the palm of the left hand.
8. Wipe the left arm in the same manner with the right hand.
Things That Invalidate Tayammum:
- Everything that invalidates wudu also invalidates tayammum.
- Finding water or the removal of the impediment to using water invalidates tayammum.
