Witr prayer is a 3-rak'ah prayer that is wajib (obligatory) according to the Hanafi school. It is performed after the Isha prayer.
How to Perform Witr Prayer:
1. Make the intention. Take the opening takbir.
1st RAK'AH: Recite Subhanaka, A'udhu-Bismillah, al-Fatiha, and a surah. Perform ruku' and sujud, then stand up.
2nd RAK'AH: Recite al-Fatiha and a surah. Perform ruku' and sujud. Sit and recite At-Tahiyyatu, then stand up.
3rd RAK'AH: Recite al-Fatiha and a surah. Before going into ruku', raise the hands saying "Allahu Akbar" (qunut takbir) and recite the qunut supplications:
QUNUT SUPPLICATION 1:
"Allahumma inna nasta'inuka wa nastaghfiruka wa nastahdika..."
QUNUT SUPPLICATION 2:
"Allahumma iyyaka na'budu wa laka nusalli wa nasjudu..."
After the qunut supplications, perform ruku' and sujud. In the final sitting, recite At-Tahiyyatu, the salawat, and Rabbana atina. Give salam.
Note: If one does not know the qunut supplications, the "Rabbana atina" supplication may be recited instead.
