Psalms and Wisdom

Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him) was one of the great prophets sent to the Children of Israel and also served as a ruler. He was given the holy scripture called the Zabur (Psalms). Allah granted Dawud many blessings and miracles. Chief among them were the ability to soften iron in his hands and forge armor, and the mountains and birds glorifying Allah along with him. At a young age, he killed Jalut (Goliath) with a sling stone and achieved a great victory. Dawud was known as a just ruler. He was also very meticulous in his worship. He would fast every other day and always performed the Tahajjud prayer during part of the night. The story of Dawud demonstrates that it is possible to balance justice with power and authority, and to harmoniously carry out worldly responsibilities alongside worship.
