Symbol of Patience

Prophet Ayyub (peace be upon him) is the prophet who first comes to mind when patience is mentioned. He is praised in the Holy Quran as "What an excellent servant! Indeed, he always turned to Allah." Ayyub was a wealthy and prosperous man with vast lands, herds, many children, and a healthy body. In the next phase of his trial, Ayyub began to lose everything he had. His wealth was taken, he lost his children, and he was afflicted with a severe illness. People distanced themselves from him, and only his wife remained by his side. Despite all these hardships, Ayyub never rebelled against Allah. Finally, he supplicated to Allah saying, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful." Allah accepted Ayyub's prayer, and his wealth and children were restored to him many times over. His story teaches what true patience really is and that reward surely follows trials.
