When Should You Arrive?

Eyup Sultan Mosque is one of Istanbul's most crowded Friday prayer mosques. If you want to find a spot inside, it is recommended to arrive at least 1 hour early. With the call to prayer, the mosque fills completely, and latecomers pray in the courtyard or surrounding streets.

Sermon and Preaching

The Friday sermon is delivered on a topic determined by the Presidency of Religious Affairs. A preaching session is held before the sermon, followed by the call to prayer and the sermon. The imams of Eyup Sultan Mosque are known for their impressive oratory.

After Friday Prayer

After Friday prayer, many congregation members visit the tomb. Crowds increase at the tomb during these hours. Lunch can be had at surrounding restaurants after prayer. On Fridays, the surrounding shops are also busy, creating a lively atmosphere.
